Blouse Sewing Methods

Basic Pattern Drafting: Start with drafting a basic blouse pattern using body measurements. This includes creating the front and back bodice patterns, along with the sleeve and neckline patterns. Adjustments are made for fit and style.

Cutting the Fabric: Lay out the fabric and place the pattern pieces on it. Ensure that the fabric is folded correctly and the grainline is aligned. Pin the patterns to the fabric and cut carefully along the edges.

Darts and Pleats: Sew darts and pleats as per the pattern. Darts help shape the blouse to fit the body, while pleats add design details and volume. These are sewn before assembling the main pieces.

Shoulder and Side Seams: Join the front and back bodice pieces at the shoulders first. After that, sew the side seams from the underarm to the hemline. Press the seams open for a neat finish.

Neckline Finishing: Depending on the style, finish the neckline with a facing, bias binding, or a collar. Ensure that the neckline lies flat and is evenly stitched.

Sleeve Attachment: Sew the sleeve seams and attach the sleeves to the armholes. Ease the fabric around the armhole to avoid puckering. For fitted sleeves, gather the sleeve head slightly before attaching.

Hemming: Finish the hemline of the blouse by folding the fabric twice and stitching it down. A narrow hem is common for blouses. Press the hem for a crisp finish.

Buttonholes and Fastenings: Mark and sew buttonholes on one side of the blouse. Attach buttons on the opposite side. For blouses with zippers, insert the zipper in the side seam or the back as per the design.

Finishing Touches: Press the entire blouse to remove any wrinkles and to set the stitches. Check all seams and edges for any loose threads or imperfections, and make necessary adjustments.
